Such a beautiful and moving piece with so much to reflect on. I feel so touched by the powerful scenario that unfolded in the cafe with the Rabbi and your friend. It's such a perfect encapsulation of how complex we all are, and I so appreciate how you open you were to each of their experiences. What a lovely invitation this piece is to rethink and move beyond the battle of good versus evil. Glad to have found your work!

Very Intelligent and thoughtful. I agree fundamentally. In the Buddhist tradition I was equaling Evil with Greed and Ignorance (of the bigger Self) which is quite close to what you're proposing. Another way of looking at it for me is - GOOD- for life/life enhancing & EVIL- against LIFE - destructive/death enhancing. NoT simple.

However, I am no longer sure that OR if there are or not FORCES (perhaps impersonal) akin to what people describe as demons and angels - in the FIELD -

Hi Sybilla, Thank you for your thoughts and bringing up an important point. I agree that there may still be forces in the field -- even in my more metaphysical experiences, and working with people in altered states - I've found this frame can still be helpful. Unity vs. identity paths could apply beyond human form. Doesn't have to be an either / or as you state.

For me a good metaphor is the organism in its environment. Parts of the organism contribute to the whole - there is no trade-off of health for the parts the whole. The organism shapes the environment and vice versa.

First time reading something of Trish's. This is no ordinary description of the push and pull of human nature, well done (pun intended). My favorite actor is Al Pacino. There have been several films that featured the devil but Pacino's John Milton as a lawyer in 1997's The Devil's Advocate gives about as good of a view of modern day evil as any and his explanation of the traditional religious set up of God's rule and plan and the Devil are what Trish felt as a young Catholic and what I felt as well. There are better and more comprehensive ways to view ourselves and our place in the Kosmos and our purpose, and Trish's framing is a good one.
