Liv Boeree on Tech-Utopianism, Psychopathy and Pig Farms

Plus, our session with Jordan Hall for paid subscribers

We’ve released another ten tickets to the first screening of ‘Crossroads’ in London on March 14th, and for Australian readers near Byron Bay, we have a screening on March 22nd at the Byron Bay Theatre. If you’re in Melbourne, I’m running a workshop and speaking at the Wisdom & Action Forum alongside Nora Bateson, Tyson Yunkaporta and Julia Kim on April 1-3.

“Where do we go from here?”

If we thought we knew the answer, we’d be lying to ourselves. And if we definitely knew the answer, we’d already be there.

I presented this koan to all of our guests in the launch series of Kainos, and enjoyed wrestling with the paradox together.

In our closing sessions with Liv Boeree and Jordan Hall, they shared their wisdom in conversations that traversed game theory, religion, pig farms, the possible annexation of Canada by the US, and how to counter psychopathic corporations. You can watch Liv Boeree’s session above, and paid subscribers can find Jordan Hall’s below.

Our launch series is now over, and despite our best attempts, the question of how to dance with the shifting times remains alive and well.

After a short break, we’re launching a new series in the spring with Iain McGilchrist, Brett Scott and Andrea Hiottall confirmed, and we’d like to know what question you think we should use as our new theme. Let us know in the Kainos chat.

Coming up, we also have two Substack Live sessions which will be available for everyone. Paid subscribers will soon get access to the full interviews with the guests on Crossroads, while Founding Members get all of that along with new Knowledge and Wisdom sessions with some brilliant guests.

March on Kainos

On Wednesday 5th of March at 7pm UK time, I’ll be in conversation with Helen Pluckrose on Substack Live about her piece ‘What’s Going Wrong with the Anti-Woke? and exploring the rise of the Woke Right. As one of the masterminds behind the Grievance Study Affair Helen has more authority than most to unpack the intricacies of this phenomenon, so one not to miss (we’ll record these as well).

On Wednesday 12th of March at 6pm UK time I’ll be in conversation with Abi Millar, author of The Spirituality Gap: Searching for Meaning in a Secular Age to discuss her journey trying out every ‘spiritual not religious’ practice under the sun. It’s an entertaining and insightful read and worth checking out if, like me, you feel you fit into that category but aren’t sure how you feel about it.

These Substack Live sessions are open to everyone and we’ll share the recordings with everyone too.

For Founding Members, I’ll be leading an Embodied Inquiry session on Wednesday 12th at 7pm after my conversation with Abi, and the week after that we have Brett Scott, economic anthropologist and author of the excellent Cloudmoney, coming in to give us an accessible Knowledge Session around modern economics.

And peering way into the distance, we have our Knowledge Session with Iain McGilchrist on April 21st at 6pm.

Our session with Jordan Hall is below and really worth checking out. He gave a tour de force situational assessment of 2025, along with an incredibly powerful explanations of what happens in societies when strategy stops working that I’ve been chewing over for days.

I’m keen to write something expanding on it, and I’ve been itching to write features again. At the moment I’m immersed in finishing Crossroads, but soon long-form essays will be a regular feature on Kainos.
