Making Sense Together One Last Time
Our final Sensemaking 101 with John Vervaeke, Diane Musho Hamilton, Jonathan Rowson and Sara Ness
Join us this autumn for our final Sensemaking 101 online course, with tuition from John Vervaeke, Diane Musho Hamilton, Jonathan Rowson, Sara Ness, Alexander Beiner and David Fuller
We recently got an email out of the blue from someone who attended Sensemaking 101 a couple of years ago. As it turns out, he met his wife on the course and after travelling half-way across the world to meet up in person, they’re now married and expecting a baby girl.
It was a lovely message to receive, and I’ve been reflecting on it for a few weeks. When we designed the course, we were trying to create a process to provide a toolkit of practices and theories to help people make sense of a complex world. Techniques and models to help us navigate the information landscape, understand how to read between the lines in the media, discern the deeper code of culture and talk about challenging topics in a new way.
The email caused me to reflect on something we’ve noticed time and again: deepening the connections between us matters more than being able to see how things connect. Making sense of what’s going on in the world is ultimately about figuring out what’s going on in our interactions at different scales, coming to a sense of deeper human understanding and collective insight.
Theories and models are important (and the course includes the best we’ve come across), but ultimately what we’ve learned that improving our sensemaking is always a process of inquiring together. It’s about bringing our whole selves to a conversation, listening deeply and drawing on the collective intelligence that arises between us when we do. What emerges are new ideas, wider perceptions and more imaginative ways to approach some of the big challenges we face collectively.
In September, we’re hosting our final Sensemaking 101 before we wrap up Rebel Wisdom in November. And as it’s the last one, we’re pulling out all the stops. As well as bringing in a new session on the meta-crisis with Jonathan Rowson alongside our regular sessions with Diane Musho Hamilton, John Vervaeke and Sara Ness, we’re making available a selection of the best live sessions from previous courses with Daniel Schmachtenberger, Doshin Roshi and other faculty you can use for further study. If you’ve done the process already, we’re offering 50% off for alumni and some more advanced exercises to help you develop new capacities.
We have an Earlybird offer available for the next 72 hours, and you can read more about the what to expect here.
With an average satisfaction rating of over 90%, and 1200 alumni from over 60 countries, it’s a process we’ve grown really proud of. We don’t want cost to be a barrier, so we always open up as many concession places we’re able to. We’re offering 10 full scholarships for anyone who wants to join but can’t afford to right now. See the end of this message for info both of those options.
Sensemaking 101 Testimonials
"I loved the interaction within the lectures, as well as the pod meetings. Our pod decided to meet twice a week when we could because we benefited so much from it."
"Great group, great calls, questions, speakers and interactions. One on one work with the facilitators was especially powerful."
"Totally impressed with the overall rigour of the course, the breadth and depth of the workbook material, and the delivery of the programme by the facilitators. Consistently heartfelt, vulnerable and engaging."
As well as an extensive workbook, exclusive films and work in small ‘pods’ of four, the process involves live tuition from world-class teachers, practices to help you develop your mindfulness and mental flexibility, and work in small groups of three other people to put into practice what you’re learning.
If you’d like to apply for a partial concession of up to 50%, you can do that here. And to apply for a full scholarship, just email courses@rebelwisdom.co.uk with ‘scholarship’ in the subject line and a bit more information about why you’d like to attend, and where you’ll apply what you learn.
Sensemaking 101 has been one of the highlights of Rebel Wisdom for us. We can’t guarantee you’re going to meet the love of your life, but we can safely say it’s a transformative process for a lot of people. If it’s something that you feel inspired by, we hope to see you in September.
I was a member of the first class. Are there plans for a "reunion" of all students?
Whoa, that graphic is stunning. May I have permission to share it at Emergent Commons? I might need a coy for my wall.
