Join us for an in-person event with Sara Ness in London on May 17th. An evening for making authentic connections, honing your conversational skills and learning techniques as useful for talking about big ideas as they are for navigating your relationships.

During the most recent in-person event we hosted in London, John Vervaeke said something that stuck with us: “We’ve forgotten how to commune when we communicate.” 

Our growing cultural polarisation might be explained by precisely that. It can be hard to come from a place of authenticity, depth and curiosity when we’re talking to each other about what really matters. We often argue instead of inquire, or scheme to win instead of trying to come to a new synthesis. This can be as true of our closest relationships as it is of political conversations. As the saying goes, the political is personal.

So what does it take to overcome these barriers and become a conversational master? What skills do we need to express ourselves authentically, listen intently, and jump between different perspectives like a ninja? It’s definitely easier said than done, but the process of getting better at it is essential for thriving in the times we live in. It's also quite a lot of fun.

Sara Ness is one of the most skilled facilitators in the world helping people do this. We’re currently running a brilliant course with her which ends this week, and coincidentally she’s going on a European tour this month, so we thought it was too good an opportunity to miss to do a live event together.

If you haven’t come across Sara’s work or seen her on the channel before, she’s a pioneer in the field of Authentic Relating. She uses conversation games, a tool-kit of useful emotional and cognitive practices, and a multi-disciplinary approach to the science and psychology of connection. Logistics

The event is taking place at Ninety One Live Room, Brick Lane on 17 May. Alexander Beiner will host a conversation with Sara about the theories her work is based on, her experiences applying them to cultural polarisation, and what she’s learned in the process. Then, we’ll put some of those techniques into practice together, and most of the evening will be experiential. Tickets are £15, and there’ll be plenty of time to have a drink and socialise afterwards.

Doors will open at 7:30 and after the main event we also have use of the courtyard which is lovely on a warm evening. The closest stations to the venue are Shoreditch High Street (Overground) or Whitechapel (Central Line).
