Is social media the “mirror” of the Snow Queen story? Or is it the digital realm itself?
I have heard it said that the goal of the technocratic infatuation is to create a digital twin (similar effect to a mirror but perhaps improved in orientation) of our world including all humans in addition to Nature. Impact investing seems to be madly supporting good causes which in turn seems to require a lot of data collection on everything from migration patterns of elephants (or humans!) to the mental health of teenagers.
Digital communities are replacing actual face to face human interaction with the advantage to alleviate our sense of isolation should we live in areas where we don’t care to know our neighbors, while generating an awful lot of data for the proverbial “Machine”.
It is all well and good to make use of the tools of the day, and indeed we have to in order to survive financially it seems. But as always it is worth keeping one wary eye on the old adage, “The path to Hell is paved with good intentions.”
This reminds me of the importance of grief that you discussed in a previous article. I often return to this concept whenever I catch myself resisting and refusing to accept what is. But we can’t begin to make sense of something we haven’t fully accepted first. It’s much easier said than done ofc, but I’m so excited to see the magic that happens when we come together. Kairos is actually our direct temporal competitor, and we spend millions every year trying to penetrate the shifting sands that exist between what was and what is to be to steal its secrets - no luck yet, we’ll probably need to hire more mages.
So excited to see this initiative. I just subscribed. I've been contending with ideological capture in the different realms of my life. I'd love to hear your reflections on the men's work you did with David Fuller a few years ago.
This reference describes the Big Picture as it was in 1995 long before the advent of social media which is driving everyone more and more insane every day.
