We briefly touched on this in one of the Kainos talks, can’t remember which one. I’m always slightly wary of the ‘spiritual buffet’ and taking the bits we like as that can just be the easy parts. I completely get what you mean Ali about being more wary of a practice/religion/spiritual tradition asking something of you - but maybe to some degree, that’s the point. If we just pick the easy comfortable parts and disregard the parts that ask us hard questions, difficult commitments etc we maybe missing the point (notwithstanding gurus and conmen) discipline, sacrifice, moderation, constraints seem like things that lessen but in fact are part of the creative, transformative process. The idea that real freedom comes from some level of self discipline. Elizabeth Oldfield talks about this a lot, and though I don’t share her beliefs, I find her stuff and her very interesting/inspiring - maybe a Kainos talk with her would be good.
Would anyone be willing to give a brief overview of what this video was about?
